So here’s the thing, there are a ton of great skinny margarita and tequila drink recipes out there that count as low carb and paleo-friendly margaritas, you can also make the perfect keto margarita- you just have to get creative. Keto is easier than people think if you’re not vegan (it does get a bit more challenging if you’re a strict vegan or vegetarian).
A general rule of thumb of keto is essentially limiting your daily carb intake to 20grams or less. That cuts out all the bread, rice, and pasta, but you get to eat all the fun stuff- dairy (all the cheese), meat, eggs, nuts etc. What you do have to watch out for though, is alcohol.
Enter our keto margarita recipe. You can can make this sugar-free margarita either make frozen or on the rocks. We like the frozen version because it’s the perfect treat because low carb cocktails are the way to keep us sane!
HOW TO MAKE THE BEST SKINNY MARGARITA
The great thing about this low carb paleo keto-friendly margarita recipe is that it’s a great alternative for those who want to avoid the ridiculous amount of sugar (and calories!) that’s normally in the regular margaritas.
The typical margarita recipe uses triple sec which is where all the sweetness and sugar content comes from. So, in order to lower our carbs/sugar and make this skinny margarita recipe truly be a keto margarita, we need to switch that out for something that’s keto friendly.
Enter our old friend stevia. Yes, that’s the secret ingredient in our skinny margarita recipe- well, that and a few other things.
HOW TO MAKE A KETO MARGARITA
In order to really make your skinny margarita without sugar keto you have to get rid of triple sec all together and replace it with something else that still gives you a bit of that sweetness, and a bit of that orange zing. We already mentioned that we recommend stevia (but you can also use a different liquid sweetener as the powder has a harder time disolving), but we also recommend adding orange seltzer or orange extract instead of another orange liqueur.

We know it sounds funny, but it tastes delicious and for a low carb paleo margarita- that’s saying a lot. Honestly, it’s the perfect sugar-free skinny margarita!
TIP: Yes, you can buy margarita mix online but not only is this easier, but you also have control over how much sweetener you put in it. So ignore that advertising that’s telling you to buy the “best skinny margarita mix” because nothing is as good (or as easy) as homemade.
THE BEST SWEETENER FOR A SUGAR-FREE PALEO SKINNY MARGARITA
While we prefer that combination of liquid stevia and orange seltzer, you can also use orange liquid stevia instead of using two products. Perhaps try making both versions of this skinny margarita recipe and see what you like better.

HOMEMADE MARGARITAS ON THE ROCKS
While we think these skinny margaritas are better served frozen in the summer, we recognize that you might not like it that way and most likely prefer your sugar free margaritas on the rocks instead. The good news is that the on the rocks version is actually easier to make because you don’t need to use a blender to crush the ice.
Use the steps above but don’t add the ice into the blender. Simply blend together everything else, and pour it over ice cubes that you’ve placed into the glass (after salting the rim).
And that’s it- the best skinny margarita recipe that will hit the spot. Yes, you’ll find it hard to believe that this is an actual keto margarita recipe as well.
